Reddit Post Title Generator

Eight titles for your post, written the way Reddit writes rather than the way ads do.

How it works

What is the Reddit Post Title Generator?

The Reddit Post Title Generator is a free tool that writes eight titles for a Reddit post. Describe the post, pick whether it is a question, discussion, guide, story or something you made, and name the subreddit if you have one. The titles are plain and specific, because that is what Reddit upvotes, and each fits Reddit's 300-character limit.

How to use the Reddit Post Title Generator

  1. In What the post is about, describe the post in a sentence or two, with any numbers or details it includes.
  2. Pick the Post type: Question, Discussion, Advice wanted, Guide or tip, I made this, or Story.
  3. Add the Subreddit if you know where it is going, such as r/SaaS.
  4. Press Generate titles and compare the eight options.
  5. Press Copy on the one you want and paste it into Reddit's title field.

What makes a good Reddit post title?

A title that says exactly what the post is, with the one detail that makes it worth opening. Most people decide from the title alone whether a post is for them, often on a phone, in a feed where your post sits between dozens of others. On Reddit, "I quit my agency job to build a habit tracker: 6 months, 400 users, and the pricing mistake" beats "My startup journey" every time.

The opposite of what works on much of the web also holds. Clickbait, hype and capital letters read as marketing on Reddit and get downvoted or removed. A title that undersells slightly and then delivers does better than one that promises too much, because Reddit readers say so in the comments when a post does not live up to its title.

Reddit title formats that work

A few shapes come up again and again in posts that do well. The specific question names the situation: "Agency of 6, what do you use to track client hours?" The result with a number gives the outcome and the scale: "Cut our churn from 8% to 3% in a quarter, here is what changed". The lesson learned leads with the mistake: "I spent $4,000 on ads before talking to a single customer". The "I made" post says what it is and the one interesting detail, and lets the work speak.

What these share is a concrete detail: a number, a timeframe, a role or a place. Pick the Post type here that matches what you are posting, and the titles are written in the matching shape.

A question invites replies and suits a post where you want advice or opinions; a statement suits a post where you are giving something, such as a guide, a result or a story. Mixing the two, a statement that hides a request for upvotes or a question that is really an advert, is what Reddit readers notice and dislike.

Should the title change for each subreddit?

Yes. Each community has its own habits. Some expect a tag in brackets at the start, such as [Question] or [Hiring]. Some want every title phrased as a question. Many have rules about what the title must say, and some ban certain words outright. A post that fits r/SaaS can read wrong in r/Entrepreneur.

Name the subreddit and the titles are written to fit it, but always check its posted rules too. AutoMod removes many posts for the title alone, before a person ever sees them, and the Reddit AutoMod Simulator can test a title against common rules first. If you post the same thing in several subreddits, write a different title for each rather than copying one across, which can also look like spam.

Can you edit a Reddit post title?

No. Reddit lets you edit the body of a text post but never the title, on any version of the site. If the title is wrong, the only fix is to delete the post and submit it again, which loses any votes and comments it already had, and some subreddits remove reposts too.

That is the reason to settle the title before you post. Compare a few options side by side, read each one as a stranger scrolling past would, and check the spelling of any names. Then post at a time the subreddit is active, because the first hour decides how many people ever see it.

Questions

How long can a Reddit title be?
Up to 300 characters. Most titles that do well are far shorter, often under 120, so they read in full in the feed.
Do Reddit titles affect upvotes?
Heavily. Most people decide whether to open a post from its title alone, so a specific, honest title gets more clicks and more votes than a vague or clickbait one.
Can I promote my product in a Reddit title?
Most subreddits remove titles that read like an advert. Share what you made or learned instead, and keep links and offers out of the title. Check each subreddit's rules on self-promotion first.
Can I change a Reddit post title after posting?
No. Titles cannot be edited after posting. You would have to delete the post and submit it again.
Does it write the whole post?
No, only the title. Write the post yourself, then format it in the Reddit Markdown Editor so the paragraphs and lists come out the way you meant.
Is the Reddit title generator free?
Yes, with a free hyperank account. You can run it twice an hour.
