Bold, italic and bullet lists for LinkedIn posts, with blank lines kept and a preview of the fold.

How it works

What is the LinkedIn Text Formatter?

The LinkedIn Text Formatter is a free tool for styling LinkedIn posts. Select words and turn them bold, italic, bold italic, monospace, underlined or struck through, add bullet, arrow, check or numbered lists, and copy the result straight into LinkedIn. Line breaks are kept, and a preview shows what appears before "see more".

How to use the LinkedIn Text Formatter

  1. Write or paste your post in the box.
  2. Select a word or phrase, then press a style: Bold, Italic, Bold italic and so on.
  3. Select a few lines and press a list button to add bullets, arrows, checks or numbers.
  4. Check the preview and the character count, then press Copy post and paste it into LinkedIn.

How do you bold text on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn posts have no bold button, so the only way to bold text is with Unicode characters that look bold. The letters in 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 are separate symbols from the Mathematical Alphanumeric block, not styled versions of b, o, l and d. They paste anywhere plain text goes, which is why they work in posts, comments and your headline.

This formatter converts the text you select into those characters, and Clear style turns them back into plain letters. Check the length against the 3,000 limit with the LinkedIn Character Counter.

Is bold text bad for LinkedIn reach or accessibility?

There is no evidence that LinkedIn penalises Unicode styling. The real costs are elsewhere. Screen readers may read styled letters one at a time or skip them, and LinkedIn search does not match them, so a bolded name or keyword is invisible to anyone searching for it.

So style a few words for emphasis, never whole sentences, and never your name, company or the keyword you want the post found for.

How do I keep line breaks in a LinkedIn post?

LinkedIn keeps line breaks that you type in its own editor, but some apps strip blank lines when you paste. Writing here and copying with the button keeps every break exactly as typed. If blank lines still vanish, the source you pasted from is usually converting them, not LinkedIn.

Which text styles does this LinkedIn formatter support?

Six: bold, italic, bold italic, monospace, underline and strikethrough. Bold, italic and monospace are sans-serif or typewriter letters that sit well next to LinkedIn's own font; bold italic uses a serif face. Bold and monospace convert digits too, so 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 stays bold, while italic and bold italic leave digits plain because Unicode has no italic digits.

Only the letters A to Z and a to z are converted. Accented letters such as é or ñ, and non-Latin scripts, stay plain, so a styled word with an accent will look patchy. Underline and strikethrough work differently: they add a combining mark after every character, spaces included, which is why they count double toward the limit.

To restyle a word, select it and press another style; the formatter turns it back into plain letters first. For decorative styles such as script or double-struck, which suit a bio more than a post, use the Instagram Font Generator.

How do I add bullet points to a LinkedIn post?

Put each point on its own line, select those lines, and press • List, → List, ✓ List or 1. List. The formatter adds the marker and a space to the start of every selected line that has text, and leaves blank lines alone. Numbered lists count only the lines with text, so a blank line between points does not break the numbering.

If a line already starts with one of these markers, it is replaced rather than doubled, so you can switch a bullet list to a numbered one by selecting it again and pressing 1. List. The markers are ordinary characters, so they paste into LinkedIn as part of the text and look the same in every app.

How do I format a LinkedIn post so people read it?

Make the first line the reason to read on: a claim, a number from your own work or a question your reader has. Then keep paragraphs to one to three lines with a blank line between them, because most people read LinkedIn on a phone, where a solid block looks like effort.

Use a list when the post has steps or several parallel points, and bold one phrase per post at most, the one a skimmer should not miss. End with a single, clear next step or question. Check the preview before you copy: if the hook is not inside the lines shown before "see more", move it up.

Do I need a Chrome extension to format LinkedIn posts?

No. Extensions that add formatting buttons inside LinkedIn insert the same Unicode characters this formatter does, so the result in the post is identical. This page works in any browser, on a phone as well as a computer, with nothing to install and no access to your LinkedIn account. The formatting happens in your browser, and your text is not sent to a server.

An extension saves a copy and paste if you post every day. For anything else, write here, press Copy post and paste into LinkedIn's editor.

Questions

Can you italicize text on LinkedIn?
Not with a button in a normal post. Use Unicode italic characters instead: select the words in this formatter, press Italic and paste the result. LinkedIn articles do have a native italic option.
Does LinkedIn support bullet points?
LinkedIn posts have no list button, but bullet characters such as • and → paste in as plain text. Select the lines here and press a list button to add them to each line.
Will formatted text work in my LinkedIn headline?
Yes, Unicode bold and italic work in headlines too. Use them sparingly, because LinkedIn search will not match styled words, so a styled job title makes you harder to find.
Does formatted text count as more characters?
It can. This counter counts each bold or italic letter as one character, but these letters are stored as two code units, and some counters treat them as two. Underline and strikethrough add a combining mark to every letter, so they always count double. Leave headroom under 3,000 if you style a lot.
Why do some formatted letters show as boxes?
The reader's device has no font with those symbols. Most current phones and computers show them, but some older devices and a few apps fall back to empty boxes or question marks. That is one more reason to style only a few words, so the post still reads if they fail.
How do I remove bold or italic formatting from LinkedIn text?
Paste the text into the box, select the styled words and press Clear style. The formatter turns bold, italic, bold italic and monospace letters back into plain ones and strips underline and strikethrough marks. In LinkedIn itself, the only way is to delete the styled words and type them again.
Does LinkedIn formatting work in comments and messages?
Yes. The styled letters are ordinary Unicode text, so they paste into comments, direct messages, your headline and your About section as well as posts. The same cautions apply: search does not match them and screen readers may stumble on them.
Can I format text in LinkedIn articles and newsletters?
Yes, and you do not need this tool for it. The article and newsletter editor has its own bold, italic, headings and lists. Use those, because native formatting stays readable by screen readers and searchable, which Unicode styling does not.
