AI Prompt Checker
Read a prompt back to yourself: what is vague, what is missing, what it will produce.
How it works
What is the AI Prompt Checker?
The AI Prompt Checker is a free tool that reviews a prompt you paste and rates it out of 10 for its intended use. It explains the score, lists the prompting techniques the prompt uses and misses, suggests specific improvements and writes an enhanced version. Use it to tighten a prompt before you run it.
How to use the AI Prompt Checker
- Paste the prompt you want reviewed into Your prompt.
- Pick its Use case: General, Writing, Code, Research, Analysis or Marketing.
- Press Check prompt.
- Read the rating and its reasoning, then Framework Analysis, Technique Evaluation and Specific Improvements. The first time, sign up free to reveal them.
- Copy the Enhanced Version and run it beside your original on the same input.
What can an AI prompt checker catch?
The defects that live in the text: an output format never defined, an audience never named, a length never bounded, an "etc." standing in for the rest of a list, a pronoun with no referent, two instructions that cannot both be satisfied. The checker also looks for missing techniques such as examples, step-by-step reasoning and output formatting, and for vagueness that invites the model to invent.
How should you read the prompt score?
As a summary, not a measurement. The score is colour-coded: 8 and above green, 5 to 7 amber, below 5 red. The useful parts sit under it: which techniques are in use or missing, and the specific improvements. Those you can confirm by looking at your prompt.
Use it to compare a prompt with its own rewrite, not with someone else's prompt.
What are the most common prompt mistakes?
No stated output format, so the model chooses one. No example, on a task where showing beats describing. No role, on a task whose answer depends on who is answering. No instruction for what to do when the model is unsure, which is where quiet invention comes from. And no bound on length, so answers arrive at whatever length the model finds natural rather than the one you can use.
Questions
- Is the AI prompt checker free?
- Yes. The AI prompt checker is free and works online with nothing to install. The first time, you create a free hyperank account to reveal the result.
- How do I test an AI prompt?
- Test an AI prompt by running it several times on the same two or three inputs and comparing each output against what you wanted. A prompt is working when repeated runs agree on structure and facts, not when one run reads well.
- What counts as a good prompt score?
- A score of 8 or above usually means the prompt is structurally complete, and the remaining points come from tightening rather than adding. Below 5 there is normally one missing part doing most of the damage, so read the missing list before rewriting.
- How do I write a good prompt for AI?
- A good AI prompt states the task, who the answer is for, the format and length you want, and what to do when information is missing. Add an example when the format matters more than the wording. This checker lists which techniques your prompt already uses and which it misses.
