What is the Gemini Prompt Generator?
The Gemini Prompt Generator is a free tool that turns a task description into a ready-to-use prompt for Google's Gemini. It comes with a persona, instructions, a format and constraints, keeping the standing rules separate from the task, so the rules can go in Gemini's system instructions or a Gem and the task in the chat.
How to use the Gemini Prompt Generator
- Describe what you want Gemini to do in the first box, such as "Write a launch email for a technical SEO product".
- Add the audience, tone, constraints and anything it must not say in Context. It is optional.
- Press Generate prompt.
- Copy the prompt from Your Optimized Prompt, or press Open in Gemini. The first time, sign up free to reveal it.
What are Gemini system instructions?
Standing rules kept outside the conversation. In the Gemini API, systemInstruction is a top-level field of the request, separate from the contents that hold the chat turns, so it applies to the whole exchange without being repeated.
Persona, tone, refusals and output format go there. The actual request goes in the turn. A prompt that blends the two still runs, but you have to rewrite the rules every time the task changes.
Where should the question go in a long Gemini prompt?
After the material. Gemini's context window is large enough that a common prompt is a document plus a question, and Google's long-context guidance is to put the question at the end, so the model reads it with the whole document already in front of it.
So when this prompt will sit above a pasted transcript or spec, move the task line below the material. Same words, better recall.
Where do you paste the prompt in Gemini?
In Google AI Studio, paste the persona and rules into the System instructions box and send the task as the message. In the Gemini app, save the standing part as a Gem's instructions if you will reuse it, or paste the whole prompt as the first message of a new chat. The generator returns one block of text, so do the split yourself: rules up top, task below.

- Gemini system instructions set standing behaviour for the whole session, while a prompt is the individual request in a turn. Put the role, tone and format in system instructions and the task and its material in the prompt.
- Should I use Gemini Flash or Pro?
- Use Gemini Flash for extraction, classification and formatting, where the answer is already in the input. Use Pro when the answer needs reasoning the input does not contain. The same prompt runs on both.
- Can images or files go in the same Gemini prompt?
- Yes. Gemini models take images, audio, video and documents natively. Say what to do with each attachment by name rather than "the file", which stops being clear once there are two.
- Why does my prompt behave differently in AI Studio and the Gemini app?
- AI Studio and the Gemini app have different defaults: the app adds its own instructions and your saved preferences, and AI Studio does not. Compare prompt versions inside one of them, never across both.
