Gemini Visibility Checker
How often Gemini names your brand or your site when asked the questions your buyers ask.
How it works
What is the Gemini Visibility Checker?
The Gemini Visibility Checker is a free tool that asks a Gemini model five buying questions about your category and checks whether the answers name your brand. The questions are written from your home page with your name left out. The result shows how many answers mentioned you, your position among the vendors named, and which competitors appeared instead.
How to use the Gemini Visibility Checker
- Enter your website's domain, such as example.com. The tool reads that page's title, meta description, first heading and first paragraph to work out what you sell.
- Press Check Gemini visibility. Gemini writes five buying-intent questions from your page, any that contain your name are dropped, and each one is asked with no hint that a brand is being tested.
- Press Sign up free to unlock to see the report. It has already run; signing up only reveals it.
- Read the Citation Score, the share of the five answers that named you. Explicit Citation counts answers that gave your domain; Implicit Citation counts answers that used your name without it.
- Open Analysis Steps, then each query under Query Generation, to see your position in that answer, the competitors Gemini named and the search intent it was written for.
Does Gemini use Google Search?
Yes, when it grounds an answer. The Gemini app can ground its answers in Google Search results, so a page that is not in Google's index cannot be used there, however well it is written.
Grounding is not the whole story. The model also answers from what it has learned, and that depends on how often other sites name you when they write about your category. A brand needs both: pages Google can index, and a name other sites repeat.
What is Google-Extended in robots.txt?
Google-Extended is a robots.txt token that controls whether content Google crawls can be used to train Gemini models and to ground Gemini's answers. It has no effect on Googlebot, on crawling for Search, or on your rankings, and it does not remove you from AI Overviews, which are part of Search.
It gets used backwards. A site that disallows Google-Extended to stay out of AI keeps ranking normally and can drop out of Gemini's grounded answers. That looks like a content problem and is not one.
Why doesn't a page that ranks on Google show up in Gemini?
Because ranking and being quoted are different things. A grounded answer is written from a handful of results, so being the eighth link for a keyword rarely puts you in the paragraph. The pages that get used state the answer plainly, early, in the words the question used.
Beyond search results, the model answers from what it has learned, and that is shaped by how often other sites name you when they write about your category.
Questions
- Is Gemini the same as Google Search AI?
- No. Gemini is Google's assistant and model family, while AI Overviews and AI Mode are features inside Google Search. They are related but appear in different places, and this checker is about Gemini itself.
- How do I get my business on Gemini?
- You get your business into Gemini's answers by being indexed in Google, being named by other sites that write about your category, and saying plainly on your own pages what you sell. Check that robots.txt does not disallow
Google-Extendedif you want to appear in Gemini's grounded answers. - What is the Google-Extended user agent?
- Google-Extended is not a separate crawler or user agent string. It is a robots.txt product token: Google's existing crawlers do the fetching, and a
User-agent: Google-Extendedgroup only controls whether that content may be used for Gemini. - Will blocking Google-Extended hurt my Google rankings?
- No. Blocking Google-Extended does not affect Googlebot, crawling or rankings in Google Search. It only limits how Gemini may use your content, which can lower your presence in Gemini's answers.
- How do I track Gemini visibility?
- Track Gemini visibility by running the same check on the same domain at a regular interval and comparing the Citation Score and the competitors named. The answers are generated, so compare runs over weeks rather than back to back.
