Instagram Grid Maker
Cut one image into grid tiles for your profile, or into carousel slides.
How it works
What is the Instagram Grid Maker?
The Instagram Grid Maker is a free tool that cuts one image into tiles for your profile grid or slides for a carousel. Grid tiles come out at 1080 × 1440, the 3:4 shape of Instagram's profile thumbnails, in one, two or three rows. Carousels take 2 to 10 slides. Every piece is numbered in the order you post it.
How to use the Instagram Grid Maker
- Drop an image into Image, or choose a file. JPG, PNG and WebP all work, and the image stays on your device.
- Under Split into, choose Profile grid and pick Rows, or choose Carousel and pick Slides and a Slide shape.
- Pick a File type: PNG (lossless) or JPEG (smaller files).
- Check the live preview, where each tile carries its posting number. If the image is a different shape from the tiles, move the Crop position slider to choose which part stays in frame.
- Press Download all to save every piece, or download single tiles one at a time in posting order.
What size is the Instagram grid?
Instagram's profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 thumbnail, taller than wide. It moved from squares to 3:4 in January 2025, and posts still open at their own shape when someone taps them. An image 1080 pixels wide and 1440 tall fills a thumbnail exactly, with nothing cropped.
That is the size every grid tile here is exported at. Three tiles make a row, so a 3-row grid is nine posts that line up into one picture on your profile, 3240 × 4320 in all.
How do you post a split image in the right order?
Backwards. Instagram puts each new post at the top left of your profile and pushes the rest along, so the bottom-right piece has to go up first and the top-left piece last. The numbers on the preview are that posting order: post tile 1 first and the last number last. Downloaded files are numbered the same way, as grid-tile-01, grid-tile-02 and on.
Pinned posts sit ahead of the grid and throw the picture out of line, so unpin them while you post the set.
How do you split an image for an Instagram carousel?
Choose Carousel, pick how many slides, from 2 to 10, and pick a Slide shape: Portrait 4:5 (1080 × 1350), Square 1:1 (1080 × 1080) or Tall 3:4 (1080 × 1440). The image is cut into slides side by side, so a wide photo or a panorama continues from one slide to the next as people swipe.
Instagram gives every slide in a carousel the same shape, so all the slides come out at the size you chose. Add them to one carousel post in number order, from 1 onward.
Questions
- How do I split a picture into 3 or 9 for Instagram?
- Drop the picture into this grid maker, choose Profile grid, and set Rows to 1 row (3 posts) or 3 rows (9 posts). Press Download all, then post the tiles in number order, starting with tile 1.
- What size should Instagram grid tiles be?
- Make each tile 1080 × 1440 pixels, a 3:4 shape, which matches Instagram's profile thumbnails since January 2025. Every grid tile this tool exports is that size.
- Why does my Instagram grid picture not line up?
- Usually because the tiles went up in the wrong order or a pinned post sits in front of them. Post the bottom-right tile first and the top-left last, and unpin posts while you do it. The numbers in this grid maker give the right order.
- Is this Instagram grid maker free?
- Yes, with a free hyperank account. Profile grids of 3, 6 or 9 tiles and carousels of 2 to 10 slides are all included, and the image is cut in your browser, so it is never uploaded.
- PNG or JPEG for Instagram grid tiles?
- PNG keeps every pixel of the original and suits graphics and text. JPEG gives smaller files and suits photos. Pick either under File type before you download.
