How it works
What is the Instagram Hashtag Generator?
The Instagram Hashtag Generator is a free tool that suggests hashtags for one post or Reel in sets of exactly five, the most Instagram now allows. Describe the post and, if you like, your niche. It returns up to five labelled sets, from broad reach to niche and community tags, each ready to copy into your caption.
How to use the Instagram Hashtag Generator
- In What the post is about, describe the post in a sentence. Hashtags work best when they describe it exactly.
- Add Your niche if you post for a particular community, such as plant-based cooking.
- Press Generate hashtags.
- Read the sets. Each is labelled by what it is for, such as broad reach, niche or community.
- Press Copy on the set that fits the post and paste it at the end of your caption.
How many hashtags can you use on Instagram?
Five. In December 2025 Instagram began limiting posts and Reels to five hashtags each, down from 30.
That is why every set here holds exactly five, with no repeats. Paste one set and the post is at the limit, with no tag wasted.
Which set of hashtags should you use?
Match the set to what you want the post to do. A broad reach set uses bigger topic tags that more people follow. A niche set narrows to the exact subject of the post. A community set uses the tags a particular group of people follows and posts under. Other sets can lean on the format of the post, such as a recipe or a tutorial, or on topics close to it.
If no single set fits, copy the strongest tags from two sets, keeping to five in total.
What makes a hashtag worth using?
It describes the post accurately. With only five slots, a tag that matches what the post is about does more work than a popular one that does not. The generator aims to leave out engagement-bait tags such as #followforfollow and #like4like, and every tag uses only letters, numbers and underscores after the #, so it works as one tag on Instagram.
A more specific description gives more specific tags, so name the dish, the place or the product rather than the general topic.
Questions
- How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
- Use up to five, the most Instagram allows on a post or a Reel since December 2025. Pick five that describe the post exactly. Every set this generator suggests holds exactly five.
- How many hashtags can you use on Instagram Reels?
- Five, the same as a feed post. The limit covers both posts and Reels, so a Reel caption can carry one set from this generator.
- Is there a free Instagram hashtag generator?
- Yes. A free hyperank account unlocks it. Describe your post and you get up to five labelled sets, from broad reach to community, each exactly five tags long and ready to copy.
- Where should hashtags go in an Instagram post?
- Put them at the end of the caption, after the words and the call to action, so the opening line stays readable in the feed. Copy a set from this generator and paste it below your caption.
